Is encountering Big Foot your ING Thing?  For centuries, cultures around the world have talked about an elusive creature roaming the wilds.  Sasquatches captive our imagination and through historical accounts, museum exhibits and film, these encounters are brought to life.

Alberta has had its fair share of sightings.  The Alberta Sasquatch Organization has recorded multiple sightings and you can find them on their website.  They range from the Rockies and across the boreal forest in northern Alberta to the prairies near the Saskatchewan border.

One of the first to write about strange footprints in the snow was David Thompson.  In 1811 the famous map maker and his guides came across some strange footprints in the Jasper area.  The David Thompson story shows how he initially recorded the sighting and revisited the question of what created the tracks several months later.

Exploring the Alberta Big Foot Story in Exhibits and Film.

The Grande Prairie Museum includes David Thompson’s story in their Sasquatch Exhibit. The exhibit explores Alberta’s part in the Sasquatch mystery and includes five “classic” Alberta stories.  It also includes background information, facts on famous Sasquatch Researchers and the Bigfoot’s presence in our culture.  The exhibit will remain open throughout the summer of 2019.

Alberta Beach resident Ken Walker is a World Champion taxidermist.  He is also a believer who took it a step further than most and created a life size mount based he named "Patty".  She 'broke cover" at the 2015 World Taxidermy Championship in Springfield, MO and was a 'selfie hit' as shown below.
